During a 26 year period starting in 1976, they failed to win 40 games an astounding 24 times.
They have never reached the conference finals, they have lost 984 more games than they have won, and their draft history could be compiled into one of the great comedy albums of all time.
So to have something go down as the worst Clippers moment in the organization’s 44 year history wholesale jerseys would require an act so abhorrent that its stench would transcend sports and revile the entire country.
Congratulations, Donald Sterling. Looks like you managed to pull it off.
Late Friday evening, TMZ released audio that allegedly captured Sterling spewing racism with the subtlety of Cheap Sunglasses a sonic boom. After his girlfriend V. Stiviano posted a picture of herself and Magic Johnson to her Instagram account, the Clippers owner repeatedly reprimanded her for allowing herself to be seen with black people.
"It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?" said Sterling three minutes and thirty seconds into the recording.
"You can sleep with (black people), you can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote itand Wholesale Handbags not to bring them to my games," he added nearly two minutes later.
A barrage of similarly disparaging remarks followed, as did outrage across the NBA landscape and beyond.
There will be some tough decisions coming up, such as how fans and players respond as the Clippers resume their playoff run on Sunday. But here’s a not so tough decision: Make Sterling go away.
Assuming the audio is not somehow manufactured, there is no justifiable explanation for any of the 80 year old’s comments. This wasn’t some off color joke made amongst friends at a party, this was a deliberate attempt to infiltrate his girlfriend’s thought process with his own prejudice.
The fact is, while Sterling may have no problem employing members of the black community (in addition to his myriad black players, he has overseen Doc Rivers and Paul Silas as head coaches and hired Elgin Baylor as his general manager) he clearly sees them as social inferiors.
And for the NBA to avoid taking every possible measure to oust him from his ownership role would be nothing short of complicity.
There has been some talk that the Clippers have considered boycotting Sunday’s first round playoff game vs. Golden State, but I don’t think that’s the solution. This team, which won a franchise record 57 games this year, plays for each other not its owner and to sacrifice a win would only let his ignorance exacerbate the problem.
There has also been talk that fans should boycott the next Clipper home game, but this would achieve little as well. Perhaps it would be warranted should the Wholesale Cheap Sunglasses Clippers reach the second round and no action toward Sterling were to be taken, but for now, this ostensibly shaken squad needs its supporters more than ever.
